Emergency! was an hour-long television drama that depicted the on-duty lives of two Los Angeles County, California Firefighter/Paramedics, their fire station crew mates and the nurses and doctors at Rampart General Hospital as they worked to save the citizens of Los Angeles County. Based out of fictitious Station 51, the two paramedics and four firefighters performed rescue operations and pre-hospital assessment and treatment before transporting their victims to Ramparts emergency department for more treatment and follow-up by the hospital staff.
The television series debuted in January of 1972 on NBC. It was produced by Jack Webb (of Dragnet and Adam-12 fame). The program continued to run in its time slot at 8 pm on Saturday nights through six seasons until September, 1977.
It also spun off a cartoon series, titled "Emergency +4" which produced only 23 one-half hour shows.
